Our Venetian Hotel Las Vegas Review:
For those who can suspend their belief for a moment, the folks at the Venetian Las Vegas have done a superb job transplanting a little slice of Venice to the desert landscape of the Vegas Strip. When you’re inside the resort’s grounds (set up to resemble St Mark’s Square), you are surrounded by canals, gondolas, bridges and porticos that ooze Italian style. The scene is particularly inspiring at night, when the entire resort is softly illuminated.
This monument to human extravagance boasts more than 5,000 rooms, the standard ones weighing in at a spacious 650 square feet. More like mini-suites, each contains a separated sunken living area, three flat screen TVs, comfortable bedding and stylish furnishings. The bathrooms are huge, boasting twin sinks, a deep soaking tub and boutique bath products.
Yet it’s the very size and popularity of the Venetian Las Vegas that is its biggest downside. Guests of the resort will have to share their space with thousands of visitors who come to admire the canals, the living statues and the cool street performances on St Mark’s Square. The Venetian is one of the most crowded spots on the Strip, which can be frustrating for some considering the hefty room rates.
But by staying here, you are truly in the heart of the Vegas glamour scene. There are 20 restaurants on site, including some run by celebrity chefs like Thomas Keller’s Bouchon and Emeril Lagasse’s Delmonico Steakhouse. An affordable food court and 24-hour room service ensure an option for every palate and budget. Between itself and its sister resort, Palazzo (next door), there are eight James Beard award winners at work here.
One reason the Venetian Hotel Las Vegas is so popular is the range of entertainment on offer, from free street performances and unflinching living statues to the unique Blue Man Group show and a Broadway performance of Phantom of the Opera. There’s also Madam Tussauds Wax Museum where you can pose with your favourite celebrity and the charming gondola rides that cruise along the Venetian’s canal network.
From the ornate Baroque lobby to the gold and marble casino, everything in the resort manages a nice balance between themepark and class. Art masterpieces are faithfully recreated and the stone thoughtfully weathered. This well-designed resort allows for the lobby, shops and casino to be accessed from outside entrances, meaning guests needn’t traverse the bustling casino to move from A to B.
The Grand Canal Shoppes is a must-see and arguably the coolest shopping scene in Vegas. Its mix of artisan shops and high-fashion boutiques makes for interesting browsing. Also getting top marks is the superb Canyon Ranch SpaClub, which regularly ranks at the best resort spa in the city. Lavish to the point of royalty, the spa employs nutritionists, acupuncturists, massage therapists and physical trainers to ensure every facet of guests’ health and well-bring is covered.
One area where the Venetian falls just short of greatness is its pool area. Although there are six pools to choose from, the overall atmosphere feels a tad bland and angular. Foliage would be a welcome addition. But few guests at the Tao Beach adults-only pool notice such details in the wake of their party.Been here?
