Mirage Hotel Las Vegas

Our Mirage Hotel Las Vegas Review:

The Mirage was a pioneer in risky and creative showmanship at the time it was conceived by Steve Wynn back in 1989. With its erupting volcano and lush tropical rainforest environment, it sets the stage for the next wave in theme-based resorts on the Strip. But this genteel resort hasn’t suffered from the years nor been eclipsed by bolder and bigger resorts.

The Mirage Las Vegas continues to hold its own with a clever strategy of providing just enough pizzazz and style to satisfy a whole generation of customers, from kids to seniors. Cascading waterfalls, jungle foliage and a volcano that goes off every 15 minutes after dark enclose the 100-acre property, adding a welcome dose of greenery and nature to the neon and concrete scene of the Strip.

Your first impression is bound to be awe when passing the 20,000-gallon aquarium with its coral reef habitat as you line up to check-in, which can be a rather slow process. A massive domed atrium covering a mini-rainforest is up next, but then the clamour of the casino shatters the dream as you try to navigate your way through the slot machines to reach your room. This is a big negative of the Mirage ― you simply can’t get anywhere without slogging through the endless casino.

But once you’re behind the gambling curtain, things quickly get wonderful again. The pool area is simply magical, with tons of palm trees and a massive pool featuring waterfalls, water slides and lots of space. This is where the popular Dolphin Habitat can be found along with Siegfried and Roy’s Secret Garden, a wildlife sanctuary.

The Mirage Hotel Las Vegas is a classy place that is free of raunch and in-your-face partying. Families with their kids will have a blast, as will sophisticated gamblers looking for a cool adult place to hang their hat. The rooms are well laid out with all the amenities you’d want in a mid-range hotel like big LCD TVs and quality mattresses. Bathrooms are on the small side, but it’s not a major issue.

While none of the 11 restaurants in the resort are particular headline grabbers, they all serve quality food in a range of cuisine with attentive service. In the evening, you can catch the Cirque du Soleil performance LOVE, inspired by the Beatles, or dance away the night at Jet Nightclub. The one thing you won’t have to endure at the Mirage is overt sex in either the themes or the shows.

The resort’s spa and fitness centre are adequate but won’t be winning any awards. The daily fee for accessing wireless internet is excessive and day-use charges for the fitness centre rather steep for what you get. But in terms of location and overall style, the Mirage is a real winner. It’s tucked into the busiest section of the Strip so you’ll have a dozen other world-class resorts to explore without much walking.Been here?
