Our MGM Grand Las Vegas Review:
The grand in the MGM Grand Las Vegas hotel and casino is one title that this comprehensive resort truly deserves. It has the biggest casino on the Strip, the most rooms, the largest pool complex and even lions, just in case you’re not yet impressed. But like most very large moving things, individual guests tend to get lost in the never-ending shuffle. The MGM is a great choice for anyone looking to make the most of the Strip ― just don’t expect snappy service.
There are more than 5,000 rooms at the Las Vegas MGM Grand, all of which are slated for a massive property-wide refurbishment to the tune of US$150 million. They are clean and comfortable though utterly unremarkable (think seven shades of beige). But with seven levels of upgrades, you can always find a nicer room to suit your style.
Location is a key selling point at the MGM. It sits right in thick of things along the central Strip, across the street from New York New York’s skyline and next to the Tropicana. A cool, convenient monorail connects the MGM to five other casino resorts and the Vegas Convention Center to help you conserve energy when cruising around.
Everything at the MGM Grand is excessively done, with the exception of the standard rooms. Its pool area is arguably the best in Vegas, covering more than six acres, with a special party pool called the Wet Republic and a long river pool for tubing. Don’t expect a quiet afternoon by the pool. This place is party central and hugely popular.
Another superlative here is the casino. Weighing in at 171,000 square feet, it’s the biggest in Las Vegas and has enough gaming tables and slot machine for everyone. The 15 restaurants at the MGM are among the best on the Strip, featuring global names like Wolfgang Puck and Joel Robuchon. Only the Wynn Las Vegas resort has a comparable stable of celebrity chefs.
Its lounge, Tabu, is a current favourite among the Vegas in-crowd, as are the nude dancers at Crazy Horse Paris. The MGM Grand is the only place in the world to see the Cirque du Soleil’s KA, one of its most impressive shows. There’s also a headliner ballroom and even a large sports arena for major concerts and sporting events.
One of the nicest and biggest fitness centres on the Strip and the impressive MGM Grand Spa round off the list of amenities here that are chart toppers. The bottom line is that the MGM really does have something for everyone, and at rates that most people can afford. It’s not as tidy as the more exclusive resorts, but that’s only to be expected from a complex this large.
The wireless internet costs a small fortune per day and the staff won’t remember your name. If mobility is an issue, you may actually have trouble navigating the girth of the MGM. That’s how big it is. But if you like things to be over the top, this is exactly the resort for you.Been here? Rate it:Rating: 4.3/5 (3 votes cast)MGM Grand Las Vegas, 4.3 out of 5 based on 3 ratings
